Note: Reading isn’t all about opening your book and reading the words out to yourself. No. Reading is all about understanding what you set out to learn. Reading for a subject requires 100% concentration, and a 100% concentration requires you being in the right frame of mind before you even begin to read. If you don’t understand what you’ve read, then you haven’t read at all. You’ve just wasted valuable time on nothing. So how do you achieve this you ask? Well it’s very simple. Just follow these scientifically backed up routines and you’re already on your way towards achieving total success in your WAEC exam this year. Based on my research, I’ve very chosen simple and actionable tips that will make studying easier and will also get you in the right frame of mind to succeed. 1. Eat well You need to feed your brain. It’s very impossible to try and read on an empty stomach. The result which is divided concentration and inability to understand what you’re reading. You just wont assimilate anything. Eating healthy foods will boost productivity. What you eat can have a huge impact on the level of your productivity as a student. As every doctor recommends; Breakfast is the most important meal of the day . Always start the day with a hearty breakfast, preferably something that releases energy slowly, such as porridge. This will get you going for the whole morning. You can also balance it up by drinking fruit juice, regular fruits and having at least one or two portions of vegetables with dinner. Remember if you don’t take care of your brain, it won’t take care of you too. 2. Drink plenty of water Nothing kills concentration like dehydration; it makes you sluggish and headachy or sometimes nauseous. To avoid feeling this way when you are about to read: Ensure you have water with you at all times (even if you’re in a library, try to get bottled water or go out for short breaks just to refresh your system with water). 3. Sleep Well It’s medically recommended you try to get at least eight hours’ of sleep every night. Impossible! some of you will say, but what you do not know is that sleep plays an important part in converting information from short-term to long-term memory, so it’s actually helping you to learn! So ensure you get enough sleep every day. 4. Exercise This is another scientifically proven factor that boots the brain performance. Exercising frequently boosts your well-being and releases endorphins in the brain –a type of hormone commonly known as ‘happy hormones’ – the same chemical hormones we get from eating chocolate or when we are generally happy. Scientific Experts recommend at least 20 minutes of brisk exercise each day; that’s enough to get your heart pumping and break out a sweat. Before you leave… You what will make sense? Do you know? Let me just tell you. It’s sharing this post.
