The University of Abuja invites suitably qualified candidates for admission to the professional postgraduate programmes offered by its Centre for Creative Writing for the 2022/2023 Academic Session.

The Centre for Creative Writing, UofA, was founded March 2023 to foster and nurture creative writing talents in Nigeria and across Africa. This centre aims to gain recognition for its commitment to promoting literary excellence and advancing the arts of creative writing.

The professional programmes are as follows:

•  Postgraduate Diploma in Creative Writing (PGD)
• Master’s Degree in Creative Writing (MA)
• Doctorate Degree in Creative Writing (PhD)

General Admission Requirements

Academic requirements for admission into the Professional PGD and MA programmes are:

⚫ A BA or BSc degree from a recognised institution with a minimum of 3.0 GPA and 60% on research work in any of the following areas: English, Literature, Theatrical Arts, Linguistics,Journalism, Mass and Public Communication, History, Art History, Religious Studies,Philosophy, and Education.

⚫ Candidates with a social science degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) will also be considered as long as they submit a profile that shows some creative writing experience, in addition to the degree or certification and willingness to fulfil remedial coursework.

Academic requirements for admission into the PhD programme:

⚫ Master of Arts or Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing or a postgraduate degree in a relevant area from a recognised institution, with a minimum of 3.0 GPA and 60% on research work.

⚫ There will be additional remedial coursework for students with a PGD.

Duration of Programmes

• 8 months for Postgraduate Diploma
• 2 years for Master’s Degree
• 3-4 years for Doctorate Degree
