In a heartening development, Adebola Akin-Bright, a 13-year-old boy whose small intestine went missing during a medical procedure at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), has received support from the Lagos State Government.
According to the Daily Post, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu personally visited him and his mother, Mrs. Deborah Abiodun, at the Pediatric Ward of LASUTH to address their concerns.
She had reached out to the governor through a heartfelt “Save Our Souls” (SoS) plea on social media, urging him to investigate the mysterious disappearance of her son’s intestine. She claimed that the incident occurred while her son was under medical care at LASUTH.
In response to these serious allegations, LASUTH management stated that they had not intentionally removed any organ or structure from the boy’s body during the corrective surgery.
Recently, he underwent surgery at a private hospital in Lagos before being transferred to LASUTH for further treatment. The medical team at LASUTH explained that the initial procedure at the private hospital had left certain unusual findings, which required extensive optimization at their facility before a corrective surgery could be performed.
The team emphasized that they had shared video evidence of these findings with the mother, although she seemed to be in denial.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, after listening to both the mother and the doctor in charge of her son’s care, expressed his primary concern for the boy’s wellbeing and vowed to ensure his life was saved.
This commitment from the governor received heartfelt gratitude from the mother, who appreciated his visit and his intervention in securing the necessary medical care for her son.
